Tennis World Tour 2 is the sequel to Tennis World Tour which came out in 2018 and is available this month on PS Plus. One of the big features of Tennis World Tour 2 is definitely the ability to play doubles as the 4-player local online mode with friends was great fun. Tennis World Tour 2 is not a bad game and it is a little bit of a step up from its predecessor but not by much and I’m going to get into a little bit of detail.
First let’s talk a little bit about the graphics. Graphics compared to the first game is a little bit better but when it comes to animations however, I will have to say that the animation and movement during gameplay still feel a little bit stiff. It still seems a little bit more robotic and that’s kind of a disappointment. Just the way they run and chase the ball feels clunky and it just doesn’t look as realistic or natural.
I do have to give them credit though when it comes to the presentation as they do add a lot to the sound quality at least when it comes to certain groans as the ball is hit and the crowd is vibrant. On the otherhand it will be nice to actually have some actual broadcasting in matches as it just kind of feels like you are watching it live and it doesn’t really give you that excitement.
Another feature that they really wanted to promote was the ability to create a player. The create a player in Tennis World Tour 2 is just abysmal because you really can’t customize everything and you are just basically choosing from preset templates. You can’t really do much in comparison to the WWE 2K or NBA 2K games where you can actually go really into detail when it comes to molding your own player.
You get to choose your stance but once again it’s still very limited on what you can do when it comes to your stance and it would’ve been nice to see more styles of players to choose from. When it comes to customizing your clothes or your sneakers etc. all of that is earned in game. I do have to give them credit for this as there is no micro transactions.
Everything is earned in game and you can earn it through career mode and I believe exhibition as well if you win and that’s the only catch is that you have to win in order to get your levels up and all the customization items. Career Mode in Tennis World Tour 2 I actually did enjoy and I like the fact that you do get to train your player and you even have to rest him. You can compete in tournaments or exhibition matches to get money to upgrade your player.
There’s also meetings you have to attend with your coach or your agent but they don’t really add much to the game. Tennis World Tour 2 has a skill cards system and they are in the game to enhance your experience and give you a boost or to harm your opponents’ stats. This might make an otherwise even match online a bit of a one-sided match and would have been better if you had a pick and ban system in place.
When it comes to the game play there’s some issues when it comes to hitting it in the right direction as there were times when I wanted to hit a diagonal shot and it went straight. There are a few other issues when it comes to the game play but it’s an improvement over the first game and it is one of the better tennis games out there.
Tennis World Tour 2 improves on its predecessor but the gameplay still feels a little flat and the create a character is lacking in an otherwise average tennis game.
